GENE EXPRESSION / DATA MINING: Job Code R-05 MISSION STATEMENT: Leading a group of scientists responsible for the interpretation of gene expression patterns from genomics and proteomics studies conducted in Preclinical Safety and in Clinical Development. RESPONSIBILITIES: The group's objective is the following: - to derive the specific gene expression profile or signature of treatment efficacy (pharmacological effect) and/or toxicity (side effects) leading to the discovery of biomarkers -to propose mechanisms and pathways affected by drug therapy which will be confirmed and validated by additional experiments - to extract implicit and novel information from complex and large databases to characterize genes involved in the physiological and/or the pathological state following drug therapy. This is done: - by integrating and synthesizing the information from databases with bioinformatics tools as well as with statistical, partitioning and visualization techniques. - to interact with program and development teams to design investigative approaches suitable for gene expression analysis and interpret gene expression results in an integrative manner. - to write and review reports to be included in the project file and present results to development teams and management. The role of this leader is: - to guide scientifically the team members, to contribute to the analysis strategy, - to interact and network with external specialists, - to set priorities for group activities, - to integrate information from multiple functions (PK/PD, modeling, functional validation, and bioassay development) - to mentor and train new hires. QUALIFICATIONS: * Ph.D with an expertise in Molecular Biology. * Knowledge of drug development processes. * Former experience in interpreting gene expression data in the context of response to drug therapies is required. * Experience working with complex databases, bioinformatics and statistical tools. * Able to integrate, synthesize and communicate complex data from multiple sources. * Strong leadership skills with experience in leading teams. ANALYTICAL CHEMIST-PROTEINS: Job Code R-06 MISSION STATEMENT: The successful candidate will be responsible for development and optimization of complex analytical assays to support release, characterization and stability assessment of therapeutic proteins. He/She must have demonstrated strong organizational, communication skills and working knowledge of cGMP. RESPONSIBILITIES: Develop and validate analytical methods to support release, characterization and stability of therapeutic proteins, including HPLC, LC-MS/MS and other analytical techniques for protein and carbohydrate analysis. Independently design analytical strategies to develop complex analytical methods, to develop validation protocols and oversee execution of assay validations. Coordinate development activities and make key technical contributions affecting the direction of the group and/or projects. Contribute to preparation of regulatory documents and help draft responses to regulatory agencies. In addition, the new hire will have supervisory responsibilities. EXPERIENCE: Qualified candidates should have a Ph.D degree or equivalent in analytical chemistry or biochemistry with minimum of five years of experience in the pharmaceutical or biotechnology industry. A strong background in protein and carbohydrate chemistry is required. Excellent knowledge and extensive experience with development of selected complex analytical techniques such as LC-MS/MS, oligosaccharide profiling and other advanced protein and carbohydrate analyses are necessary. Excellent verbal and written communication skills are required. NOTE: Position also exists for a Sr. Research Associate with similar skills.
