Gadgets & Gizmo's Class: for ages 8-10   This is a hands-on class that is appealing to both boys and girls who like to make thngs happen. Students learn to follow directions, pay attention to details, use tools and work together. They develop specific skills such as soldering and how to build projects. Class projects (new each year) demonstrate basic principles and are designed to teach creative skills and problem-solving methods. All students must learn how to focus, pay attention and follow instructions in order to develop these abilities. I recommend taking this (and actually all my classes) at least twice to increase confidence and understanding of how it applies in various learning situations.

How Things Work: for ages 12-18 (replaced Applied Science)
For young would-be inventors ...
- To develop, create, design or invent you must have a fundamental understanding of how and why things work. Without this knowledge you can only modify what others have done. Intelligence is a result of learning but Common Sense & Creativity are developed by how you live and apply what you've learned. Better to be wise than smart! We will take apart all kinds of things to see how they work, then fix, modify or use the parts to make something new. This class will learn hands-on methods I've used for years to problem solve and create new products that meet specific needs. These skills can be applied to all areas of your life and are what made me a successful and creative designer. Thomas Edison saw every failure as a success - a good thing because it took 2000 'successes' for his light bulb to work! Students need to learn that hard work pays off, that solutions don't always come immediately and that winners never quit!
Most classes teach math, scientific rules and formulas. I teach how to apply skills and the knowledge needed to actually get things done. I recommend taking this class more than once because it takes time and repetition to understand the concepts. A lot of what I teach might seem to go over your head at first, this is OK, you're learning a new language. To motivate and keep things interesting most projects are new each year. If Age 11 and a serious student you may ask the instructor for permission to take this class.

Technical Science: for ages 11-17 (replaced Applied Science)
This is a fun 'hands-on' class that teaches logical and divergent problem solving skills that will help you in all aspects of life. You build and keep special projects designed to expand and develop your technical abilities.Past projects include a Lie Detector, FM Transmitter, Super Snooper, 'Gotcha' Circuit and the "Apple Breather" circuit. We do new projects each year but repetition of basic technical skills is a key to building confidence and ultimately the ability to initiate for oneself.
You should take this class at least twice to better understand the material. Talented, gifted or returning students, may select higher level projects if they show they can do the work. These rare, unique and special classes can give you a head-start in all aspects of your life, you just need to remember, it's your life, take charge of it now before it's to late (It's your job!). Past students have received college credits (after testing) and been accepted at MIT and other prestigious schools. I have invented and designed things all my life and want to pass these skills on to you, the next generation. I look forward to mentoring, challenging and inspiring you to reach your fullest potential. This is (and getting more so) a very technical world, come learn how to stay ahead of the curve, not sliding off it!
