"Life, I Know Not What Thou Art"
by Anna Barbauld, 1743-1825

Life! I know not what thou art,
But know that thou and I must part;
And when, or how, or where we met
I own to me's a secret yet.
* * * * * * *
Life! we've been long together
Through pleasant and through cloudy weather;
'Tis hard to part when friends are dear -
Perhaps 'twill cost a sigh, a tear;
Then steal away; give little warning,
Choose thine own time;
Say not Good Night - but in some brighter clime
Bid me Good Morning.

Dear Bob:
Sweetness, compassion, and loyalty all comprised the personality of your lovely wife Maylou, my friend during that poignant time of the winter of 1943 at WMFG, Hibbing, Minnesota, in the Iron Range country. While awaiting the arrival of our first child, I was there over the holidays in the YMCA while my husband, Dave, was transferred. Maylou and her parents invited me to Christmas and New Years dinners. I have never forgotten their kindness. I vividly remember Maylou as very talented. She was a skilled classical pianist and endowed with dramatic ability as well. I have always appreciated and admired the fact that she kept in touch all these many years. We always looked forward to the wonderful Christmas compositions that you and she sent us every year. We kept them all. My sincere sympathy to you and all your family. With love,

Phyllis Taylor
