Barbara was born on Nov. 18th 1947 in Long Beach California to Eric and Dorothy Nylen. She was the oldest of four children Nancy, David & Stephen. She grew up in the house that her Dad and Grandfather built together. She was a very loving sister that always took care of her younger sister and brothers. She attended Ramona Elementary School and then she went to Washington Jr. High School and on to Bellflower High School. There are many chapters to one's life, but as we walk the path that God has set before us we see His perfect timing in our lives.
"Give thanks to the Lord, for He is good. His love endures for ever.
Give thanks to the God of gods. His love endures forever.
Give thanks to the Lord of lords. His love endures forever.
To Him,who alone does great wonders, His love endures forever.
Who by His understanding made the heavens, His love endures forever."
Psalm 136; 1-5
Barbara loved to do things with her hands. This would include hand crafts painting by numbers and then with markers on felt. The pictures were really pretty. I would come over and she would show me what she had done. Barbara also had started cosmetology school at Cerritos College, then after several years she finished and passed her test. God brought Robert Gordon into her life in 1965 and they were married and had two daughters Anna in 1966, Robin in 1968.
As the years went on, God brought Kenny Hilsabeck into her life in 1971 and they were married and had Danielle in 1978. The Lord has given Barbara quite a few grandchildren through the years and she has loved them very much. Her goal in life was to serve the Lord and to be married and have a very loving home with children to love and to do everything she could for them and her grandchildren which she loved to cuddle with and loved to have close whenever she could.
She was a special mom and she loved everyone around her. When people would come over she would greet them with a loving smile and a kind heart. She loved to play the piano and going to churches and sharing her ministry.
She would always call and ask Stephen "Honey could you get me a bag of ice and pick up my medicine"? She always told her grandchildren how special they are and would try to protect them from getting in trouble with their parents. She would open up her home to people that needed a place to stay for awhile to prevent them from being on the street.
Lovingly written by her brother, Stephen

Barbara went to sleep in Long Beach on July 12, 2004 and woke up in the arms of her Savior, Jesus Christ. Left here to cherish her memory and celebrate her life are her three daughters, Anna Doby and her husband, Reginald, Robin Gordon and Danielle Hilsabeck; her 11 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren; her mother, Dorothy Nylen; her sister, Nancy Stevens and her husband, Calvin; her brothers David Nylen and his wife, Nancy, and Stephen Nylen and his wife, Pamela; her cousin, Bonnie Lathrop and her husband, Richard; and her aunts, Elaine Palmer and uncle Monte, Dauris Slaughter and Georgia Porter.
Her life will be celebrated on Monday, July 19, 2004 at 12:00 noon at the Cornerstone Christian Worship Center, 9001 Paramount Blvd., Downey, California, where friends may pay their respects 1 hour prior to the service. Interment will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park, Long Beach, California.
I will always remember Barbara's sparkling eyes, and her beautiful smile. When I was sad, or feeling blue, I could always count on her to make me laugh, and to lift my spirits. Barbara always had an open heart and an open door for those in need of a place to sleep, something to eat, or just someone to talk to. Even though we were cousins, we felt and acted like we were sisters.
I Love you Barbara

Hi Mom,
I know that you are not here but I feel like you are right here next to me, I really miss you and I wish that I can call you on the phone, Danielle still has your voice on the cell phone with you saying Barbara Horseback, when I here that it makes me smile for a minute and then I feel sad again. This is my first Christmas without you and I still can't believe that you are gone forever or at least until I go home with Jesus. I wish that I could hold you right about now and give you the biggest hug and kiss ever given to a MOM. This is a bad feeling wanting to talk with you and wanting just to hear you say Hi there, what are you doing? So I can say to you Mom today has been pretty rough today, how are you? Or if I could just hear you ask for a glass of ice. Or maybe even to hear you say will you sing to me today did you bring your tapes? Or if I just could here you say Anna I love you and every thing is going to be okay, I feel so alone Ma none of the kids called me, and Danielle is by here self with tank and R„ø

My aunt Barbara was the world to me. I know that I want around much near the end. But when I would come home to visit, it always made her so happy to see me growing up. I know that she looks down on us from heaven and spreads her love. If she were still here today, I would get to share the fact that I am pregnant and she would be so happy that she would cry. I love you aunt Barbara and just know that you are always in mine and glenn's hearts. Someday soon we will see you again. But when that day does happen, oh what a glorius day that will be. Tell grandpa that I love him and miss him so much.
Love Always, Diana Marie Bianchi

She will always missed by three loving daughters Anna, Robin, Dannielle. She loved Anna because of her voice. She sings so pretty, mom loved that and she always asked Anna, "do you have your tapes? I want to hear you sing." She saw me be born and she said I had a mouth like a bird and that's why she named me Robin. Dannielle was the precious one. Mom loved her so she saw Dannielle have her little one named Lania Parker she was the first one to hold her and tell her how much she loved her, but mom had a special place her in heart for her grandbabies, Shante, Catrina, Matthew, Andre Jr, Stephaine, Reanna, Roman, Lania, but she loved everyone in her family. She took it to the heart she loved her sister Nancy, Brothers David and Steven, but she loved her parents very much and everyone around her. Mom, I miss you so much. You've been gone for 8 months now and it's still hard for me. I went to see you 3 times before my car got impounded but I talk to you every chance I get but my first Christmas was very hard for me and on Thanksgiving I helped grandma.
Love, your daughter, Robin Gordon
