Eva Helen Brown

Eva Helen Brown was born on Tuesday, September 3, 1907 in Norfolk, Virginia to Walter and Sarah Billups Mason. She met Lonnie Brown and they were married in 1927. Their union was blessed with three daughters, Sarah, Irene and Joanne.

The family moved to Los Angeles, California in 1939, where they have remained. Eva was a wonderful wife and mother, instilling good values in her daughters. She worked for Fred Quimby for 45 years as a housekeeper.

In 1985, Eva's life was changed by the death of her daughter, Irene, and in 1998, her life turned upside down with the death of her beloved Lonnie. They were married for 72 years.

Eva was a faithful member of the Westminster Presbyterian Church for 50 years, and in her healthier days, she loved to sew.

Eva leaves behind to cherish her memory, her daughters, Sarah Jackson and Joanne Wyatt; her great granddaughters, Veronica Childs Johnson & husband, Terry Johnson and Cowanius Kim Square & husband, Charlie Square; great grandson Benny Mario Childs and wife Tyra Cunningham Childs; 7 great great granddaughters and 1 great great grandson; and a very dear friend, Leona Boutin.

A Homegoing Celebration will be held on Monday, March 26, 2001, at 11:00 AM at Gardenside Funeral Service, with Brother Isaac Dudley officiating. Following the service, she will be taken home and laid to rest in the Greenlawn Memorial Park, Portsmouth, Virginia, near her parents.

"If tomorrow starts without me,
Please try to understand
That an angel came and called my name,
And took me by the hand.
He said my place was ready,
In heaven, far above,
And that I'd have to leave behind
All those I dearly love.

So, if tomorrow starts without me,
Don't think we're far apart.
For every time you think of me,
I'm right here, in your heart.
